Flowering: May-August. Biennial or perennial. Introduced.

Very fragrant purple, mauve or white flowers with 4-petals are followed by curved seedpods. The stalked leaves are lanceolate, toothed and pointed. A branched, erect, more/less hairy plant with leafy stems.

A widespread naturalised garden escape found throughout Ireland on roadsides, waste ground, hedgebanks and by rivers
