Lesser Burdock Arctium minus Cnádán Family: Asteraceae Flowering time: July - September. Biennial. Native. Greenish purple-pink, short-stalked flowers, the florets longer than the hooked sepal-like bracts. Closed in fruit, forming oval, sticky burs. Large wavy-edged leaves to 40cm long with hollow basal stalks. Stiff branched stems. Height 60-130cm. Widespread on drier waste ground, meadows, roadsides, open woodland. Similar: Wood Burdock, previously known as A. minus ssp. nemorosum. Greater Burdock, A. lappa. Bigger leaves with solid basal stalks. |
