Flowering Rush Butomus umbellatus Luachair dhearg Family: Butomaceae Flowering July - September. Perennial. Native. Terminal umbels of long-stalked, rosy-pink flowers with three pink petals and sepals, the sepals smaller than the petals. The twisted linear, three-angled leaves grow from the base of the plant and are +/- same length as flower stems. A hairless, erect plant that rarely sets seed but spreads vegetatively from lateral buds on the rhizomes. Height to 150cm. Occasional in still or slow-moving calcareous lakes, rivers and canals |
