Hoary Stock Matthiola incana Family: Brassicaceae Flowering April - July. Annual or perennial. Garden escape. Loose racemes of fragrant purple, reddish or white flowers with hairy sepals are followed by narrow, compressed fruit. The narrow, downy leaves are greyish-green and +/- untoothed. Erect, bushy growth with the lower stems woody and leafless. An infrequently recorded garden escape on the south-east, east and north-east Irish coasts. Similar: Sea Stock, Matthiola sinuata is very rare and decreasing |
