Flowering time: April-June. Deciduous shrub or small tree. Native.

Clusters of 5-petalled white flowers, sometimes flushed pink, are followed by small red fruit in late summerand autumn. The leaves are 3-5 lobed. A small tree with sharp thorns on trunk and branches that is frequently grown as a hedge. Height: To 10m.

Common on roadsides, hedgerows, fields and woodland but dislikes very waterlogged or acid soils.
