American Skunk-cabbage / Yellow Skunk-cabbage Lysichiton americanus Geathar búi Family: Araceae Flowering spring. Rhizomatous perennial. Introduced, garden escape. Large foul-smelling flowers with yellow spathe and a greenish spadix. Very large, stalked leaves, the leaf blades 35-150cm long. Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Reproduces by seed and vegetatively. Widespread garden escape or discard now naturalised on river and canal banks and in wet woodland and marshes where it can become invasive |
