Purple Glasswort Salicornia ramosissima Family: Chenopodiaceae Flowering August-October. Annual. Native. Very variable in colour and habitat and difficult to distinguish from S. europaea. Flowers are in threes on knobbly, dark-green stems that become deep reddish-purple. Erect or procumbent growth with single or much-branched stems to 40cm. Identified by Paul Green Coastal, on the middle and upper zones of salt-marshes. Mainly south and south-east Ireland. Similar: Other Glassworts, Salicornia agg. |
