Californian Poppy Eschscholzia californica Family: Papaveraceae Flowering June - September. Annual or perennial. Introduced. Solitary golden-yellow or orange flowers on long stalks. Fruit is a many-seeded slender capsule. Blue-green leaves alternate, branched, hairless. Can be perennial in mild, frost-free areas, otherwise annual, but self seeds freely and can be persistent. A garden escape or discard on roadsides and waste ground. Prefers disturbed, sandy, well-drained, soils in full sun. Often included in 'wild flower' mixtures |
