Dog-rose x Harsh Downy-rose Rosa x scabriuscula (R. canina x tomentosa) Family: Rosaceae Flowering June - July. Deciduous shrub. Native. A usually fertile hybrid with small hips on long stalks with some glandular hairs. The dark green leaflets are downy underneath with glands at leaf edges. Robust climbing or flexuous stems. Identified by Paul Green Grows in mildly acidic to calcareous soils on woodland edges, roadsides and in hedges. Infrequently recorded, mainly eastern half of Ireland Very similar to Rosa canina x sherardii (Rosa x rothschildii) |
