Wild Parsnip Pastinaca sativa Cuirdín bán Family: Apiaceae Flowering time: July-August. Biennial. Introduced. The umbels of small yellow flowers with unequal rays are followed by flattened seeds with winged edges. Leaves are large and pinnate with lobed and toothed leaflets. A hairy, strong-smelling plant with hollow and furrowed branched stems and sap that can create a sensitivity to sunlight that causes blisters. Height 60-120cm. Found on dry sandy soils on waste ground, roadsides and among rough grassland. An infrequent casual, but it can be persistent. |
