Flowering: January-March, fruiting September-October. Native

Tiny red styles on the female catkins, pendulous yellow male catkins. Edible nuts in clusters of 1-4. The leaves are oval-rounded and turn yellow in autumn. A deciduous multi-stemmed small tree or shrub with smooth bark. Height to 8m.

Very common in woods, hedgerows and scrub.
