The axillary pairs of blue flowers are approximately 15mm long in a one-sided spike. The short-stalked leaves are oblong-lanceolate and shallowly toothed. A hairless or slightly downy, erect plant with weak square stems. Height 20-45cm

On damp ground and beside lakes, has a scattered distribution in Ireland
