Greater Plantain Plantago major Cuach Phádraig Family: Plantaginaceae Flowering time: June-October. Perennial. Native. The flower spike is usually slightly shorter than the stalk and the flowers have lilac anthers. Rosette of broad-oval, hairless leaves with 5-9 veins and broad-winged leaf stalk. Flowering stems to 40cm. Can be abundant on waste ground, roadsides, arable land and in gardens Similar: Hoary Plantain, P. media. Densely hairy grey-green leaves, the flowers with pink-purple stamens and whitish anthers. Rare, introduced. |
