Flowering April-June. Perennial. Native.

Flowerheads with 2-12 spikelets, the glumes with narrow membraneous margins. Rough stalks with minute teeth (hand lens needed). The 'cotton' is shorter than that of Common Cotton-grass, 20-25mm. Broad, flat, pale green leaves, 4-8mm wide. Tufted stems, 3-sided above.

Occurs in base-rich fens and marshes in central, west and north Ireland. Less frequent than Common Cotton-grass.

Similar: Common Cotton-grass, Eriophorum angustifolium.
Found on acidic bogs and heaths
