Flowering July - August. Perennial. Native.

Dense clumps of light-green stems, 40-100cm tall. Stiff, sharp-pointed leaves. Loose, many-flowered inflorescence with clusters of usually erect flowers. Longer stem-like bract. Acute perianth segments, more/less as long as seed capsule.

Coastal, very frequent around most of Ireland. Tolerates a wide range of conditions including all levels of salt-marshes, silty and sandy shores, saline dune-slacks.
