Widespread on heaths, bog edges, moors. Grows on more acidic ground than Field Woodrush, Luzula campestris

Three subspecies occur:
Luzula multiflora subsp. multiflora (Illustrated)
3-10 stalked flowerheads, flowers with filaments nearly as long as anthers. Tepals reddish-brown or dark-brown. Seeds longer than wide. Densely tufted growth habit, usually without rhizomes.
