Loose, nodding, much-branched panicles of yellow-green spikelets with 3-5 flowers, awns absent. Broad, keeled, rough-edged, hairless leaves, tapering at points. Sheaths +/- rough, the ligules torn and blunt. Densely tufted, height 80-120cm.

Rare in southern Ireland in moist, shady woods and glens, more frequent in NI.
