Crested Hair-grass Flowerheads +/- cylindrical, short-branched and often tapering towards tip. Short-stalked, 2-3 flowered, purplish or greenish-white spikelets, glumes with silvery margins. Tufted, usually downy perennial with flat, +/- rough, greyish-green leaves. Height 10-30cm. Can be locally abundant on dry, sandy or calcareous grassland and dunes. Most frequent in the western half of Ireland. |
