Narrow, 1-sided flower spike with flattened, dense spikelets. Fertile flowers with very short awns. Short, narrow, hairless leaves with short, blunt ligules. Wiry, tufted growth, height 15-35cm.

Very common in meadows and grassland throughout Ireland.
