Spores ripen November - May. Evergreen. Native.

Broadly triangular-ovate fronds, often less than 2x long as wide. Longest pair of pinnae usually 2-4 from base. Lowest pinnae strongly reflexed. Pinnae usually toothed, tips more/less acute.
Young sori oval-eliptical. Ripe sporangia with large, branched hairs, annulus bright-yellow.

Found on base-rich rocks and walls, old limestone mortar, roadside banks and also on trees. Scattered distribution, most frequent in southern half of Ireland.

Sterile hybrids with Intermediate Polypody occur:
P. x shivasia. Most records are from N and NE Ireland.
