Clusters of 5-petalled white flowers, sometimes flushed pink. Clusters of small red fruit in late summer-autumn. Leaves 3-5 lobed. Sharp thorns. Small tree, also frequently grown as a hedge. Height: To 10m.

Common, roadsides, hedgerows, fields and woodland. Dislikes very wet or acid soils.
