Garden Privet
Ligustrum ovalifolium
Family: Oleaceae

Flowering June - July. Usually evergreen. Introduced.

Very similar to Wild Privet, Ligustrum vulgare with panicles of slightly scented white flowers but the leaves are broader and usually evergreen. Young shoots are hairless. Usually grows as large shrub, height 1-3m.

Often planted as hedging and found as garden discard on waste ground, rubbish tips and roadsides. Also a relic of cultivation and occasionally bird-sown. Appears to be increasing in the wild but is unevenly recorded.
