Flowering: July-September. Climbing perennial. Garden escape. Introduced.

Dioecious. Panicles of green male flowers, clusters of female, pale-green.
Opposite, lobed, coarse-toothed leaves, deciduous.
Square, hairy, climbing/twining stems. Height: To 6m.

Hedgerows, scrub, wood edges. Prefers loam or peaty soils.
Garden escape or relic of cultivation.
