Flowering: May-August. Biennial or perennial. Garden escape. Introduced.

Very fragrant purple, mauve or white flowers, 4-petalled. Curved, hairless seedpods. Stalked leaves, lanceolate, toothed, pointed. Leafy stems.
Branched, erect, more/less hairy plant. Height: 50-100cm.

Widespread garden escape found on roadsides, waste ground, river banks.
