Small pale lilac-blue flowers in leaf axils, seed capsules with 2-4 seeds. The stalked leaves are ivy-shaped, hairy, pinnate lobed and toothed. Sprawling growth to 15cm

  V. hederifolia subsp. hederifolia: blue anthers.
  V. hederifolia subsp. lucorum: paler flowers, pale anthers.

Found on waste ground and in woods, hedgerows and cultivated ground. Widespread but less frequent in the west of Ireland
